2008 Bowl Game Plan

The first line was my guess and the second, bolded line is the actual line.

Papajohns
Rutgers -3.5 vs NC St
Rutgers -6.5 vs NC St Mike Teel must be impressing some people

Alamo
Missouri -11 vs Northwestern
Missouri -13.5 vs Northwestern I was really hoping this line was set lower than this, Missouri is nothing special this year. Strictly living off their rep from last year. Mizzou actually had something you could call a defense last year.

Humanitarian
Maryland -5 vs Nevada
Nevada -1 Maryland Vegas has been high on Nevada all year long, I really should have known better

Texas
Rice -4 vs Western Michigan
Rice -3 vs Western Michigan

Holiday
Oregon -1 vs Oklahoma St
Oklahoma St -4 vs Oregon I'm not sure what I was thinking with this one

Armed Forces
Houston -5 vs Air Force

Georgia -9 vs Michigan St
Georgia -7 Michigan St

Gator
Nebraska -3 vs Clemson
Clemson -3 vs Nebraska I'll be rooting against my university, my hands are tied. I was afraid this would happen. Vegas has been respecting Clemson with the lines they've set for them in the latter part of the year. Many will look at Clemson and see 5 losses, but they are a totally different team since Dabo took over. By totally different, I mean much much better.

Rose
USC -9 vs Penn St
USC -10 Penn St

Texas -10 vs Ohio St Show up for once tOSU, just once.

GMAC
Ball St -1 vs Tulsa
Ball St -2.5 vs Tulsa

BCS Title Game
Florida -3 vs Oklahoma
Same

I was completely off in the Eagle Bank, Humanitarian, Holiday, Sun, Music City and Gator Bowls. On the other hand I was within 2 points on 22 games, so that's not horrible. In all I was 73.5 points different from the the actual line for an average of 2.16 per game.

After digesting the lines for a few moments there is no doubt I will be playing TCU, Clemson, Cincinnati and Ohio St.

The next tier of teams include Colorado St, Arizona, Nevada, Western Michigan, Oregon and Vanderbilt(I really hate this one and it should belong in the with the first four teams).

Rounding out the last tier as of now is UNC, Northwestern, Minnesota, Michigan St and Utah.

I will be looking to back the ACC and Big 10. Yes, I know I have leans against VT, Maryland and BC all from the ACC but VT is a well known commodity, Maryland is laying points to the 3rd team in the WAC(which was horrible this year) and BC is only laying 4 to a crappy Vandy team. Besides those three I'll give the ACC looks in every bowl game.

I will fade the fuck out of the Big 12 along with the SEC.

NBA Plays

I So Much Hate the NBA, my confidence is at an all-time low. For a brief moment when I was heaped over on my bathroom floor Sunday morning I thought I would take a break from the NBA. Then I see these ridiculous lines for tonight and I get sucked back in, fuck me.

OKC +1 +102 (.5)

Uconn lost their last game which was nationally televised game while Pitt beat WV in their last game which was nationally televised. Plus, Pitt is a public dog.

Navy -11 Army
Doesn't Navy smoke Army every year?

Troy -11 Arkansas St
If Arkansas St can only survive North Texas by 5 points, what will Troy do to them? Remember, Troy almost beat LSU and we all know how good LSU is.

FIU -7.5 WKU
Merely entertaining the thought. If the line would have stayed at 7 or dropped to 6.5 then there might have been a play.

Oklahoma -17 Missouri

Hawaii +7.5 Cincinnati

I'll have quite a few plays this week, which considering how the NFL has gone lately is not good for my health. I only hope that I'll be able to keep myself composed at the bar.

KC +3 Buf

Ten -5.5 NYJ
ESPN thinks this is the week the Jets spring the upset, most of the public is thinking that as well.

Mia PK NE
Definite play on the Dolphins, probably large too.

CFB Leans Week 13

Not feeling like much of an intro. Home team is listed first and leans are in bold.

Rutgers -19 Army
Not sure if Army will make the cut.

Louisville +7 West Virginia
This is another one of my weaker leans as it stands now.

Vandy -3 Tennessee
Tennessee really shouldn't show up for their game on Saturday. If you can't beat Wyoming you don't walk into Vanderbilt Stadium and lose by less than a FG. If you don't believe here are a few articulate views.

Wyoming +2 Colorado St
Line dropped while most of the consensus sites have Colorado St getting hammered.

Arkansas St -4 Florida Atlantic
How can the mighty FAU Owls be giving points?

Northwestern +3 Illinois
Here's to Illinois not shooting themselves in the fight multiple times.

Wake -2 BC
I love the ACC as a conference, hopefully it continues this weekend.

Rice -9.5 Marshall
Trying to fade Rice each week hasn't worked out so well this year.

Penn St -15.5 Michigan St
Formula to winning against Penn St is a power running game, Michigan St has this so it should be a close game.

Nevada +7 Boise St
One of my favorite games of the week.

Arizona -2.5 Oregon St
Oregon St is going to the Rose Bowl

Troy -10 UL-Lafayette
If Troy led LSU 31-3, how won't they easily dispatch of the Rajun' Cajuns?

Maryland +1 FSU
See Wake-BC

Oklahoma -7 Texas Tech
How the #2 team in the country is a TD dog is beyond me

"Ghosts Of The Past That Haunt Me. I Recognize Where I Was Wrong."

While the Dillinger Four lyric that encaputres the title of this post is in no way applicable to betting, it rings true for myself in regard to this past week.

The first two weeks on the NBA season I had 32 plays. This past week I had 26 for -4.868 units. The plan when the season started was to not play so many games right off the bat. Into the third week of a 7+ month season I was careless with my plays. Games that I had passed the first two weeks hit, so I thought I should play those borderline games in week three. It was a bad decision on my part and hopefully a lesson learned.

There might be a few college basketball plays up later this afternooon

NFL Leans

I've gotten torn apart the last two weeks in the NFL, let's see if I can go for three. Home team is first, leans are in bold.

No thanks
Atl/Den, Mia/Oak, Ind/Hou, GB/Chi, Car/Det, TB/Min, SF/Stl, Dal/Was, Buf/Cle

NYG -7 BAL
As it stands now the Giants are getting enough action to warrant a play on Flacco & Co.

CIN +9 PHI
Even someone as square as Bill Simmons (whose material I enjoy) knows that the Eagles blow out the shitty teams and lay an egg against the good ones. Why should this week be any different?

SEA +3 ARZ
Something about football in the Pacific Northwest is horribly wrong. This is by far the ugliest game on the board. I'll be expecting a Cards blowout win.

JAX +3 TEN
While I enjoy Chris Johnson racking up fantasy points I wouldn't mind another bad game. I just don't think the Jags' D can do the job. That, of course, won't stop me from backing Jacksonville.

KC +5 NO
Fading New Orleans has been far too easy this year, but here I am doing it again this week.

PIT -5.5 SD
Not thrilled at the idea of playing the Chargers, but I'll see how things develop.

CFB Leans Week 12

I'm a little wary heading into college foots this week. I've been doing too good* lately, the other shoe has to drop. Home team is listed first and my lean is in bold. Onto my attempts to justify plays.

Iowa -17.5 Purdue
Not sure if I'll play this, as the line has shifted a full three points in favor of the Hawkeyes and I might have missed my chance. I find it interesting how Vegas didn't set a line to attract Iowa action coming off their biggest win in years, but instead wants you to take the Boilermakers and their All-American kicker. Even after setting that line it moves another three points, which will only attract more Purdue action.**

Clemson -10.5 Duke
Here's to someone knowing why Clemson is a double-digit fav.

Illinois +9.5 Ohio St
Ohio St is coming off a waxing of NW*** while Illinois lost to Western Michigan. Sometimes the play is just that sickening.

Kansas +13.5 Texas
I find it comforting that as hard as Texas is getting pounded the line has only gone up .5 point and hasn't yet reached 14.

Auburn +10 Georgia
Auburn has 2 FBS wins in the past 2 months. Those came over Mississippi St 3-2 and Tennessee 14-12. Add in a 1-8 ATS for Auburn who only covered in the first week of the season and it's rather gross. How doesn't Georgia's high-powered offense cover this. Auburn has only averaged 10 ppg in conference. That means all Georgia has to do is get to 21, right?

LT -14 Utah St
It's amazing how bettors won't touch a team one week (see SJSU -8 against LT) and are all over them the next week.

Kant St +6 Nebraska
Trying to avoid this game as much as possible. Will Grimace be smart enough to attack Nebraska's thin linebacking corps? Maybe, but even when Nebraska sucked last year they beat K-St by 42. Surely an improved Nebraska team can win by 7. As a student and a fan, I'm a little worried about this game.

Florida -22.5 South Carolina
This line might be jacked up a little, it doesn't feel right to back a team that people are calling the best in the country. I'm sure South Carolina and their "#3 ranked defense" (thank you ESPN for bringing this to everyone's attention) should be able to slow down Florida a little. But Florida actually has the better defense and who is the best team South Carolina played on the road this year(Mississippi? Kentucky?). Not exactly hostile environments.

Baylor -8 Texas A&M
When was the last time Baylor was more than a TD fav? The betting public seems to be as perplexed as I am about this.

Oregon -6 Arizona
Line was steamed 2.5 points in favor of the Ducks. Someone must like one of these overrated teams better than the other.

Syracuse +10 Uconn
Not much here just a pub fade play

Colorado +18 Oklahoma St
I'm sick at the thought of playing this game. Maybe Colorado won't play like complete garbage for once.

UTEP -13 SMU
After a few mid-season covers Meth was becoming a little too popular for my tastes. After a couple of sterling performances where they let bettors down they're due for another shot. There is nothing better than a horrible team covering for a couple weeks, drawing in your average bettor only to disappoint. Which in turn brings them back down for a play. UTEP is also in the same boat as LT stated above.

Washington +7 UCLA
I loathe Washington more than any other college team

Also considering UAB, SDSU, BC and any others I feel like.

*In college football, certainly not anything else
** I might have just convinced myself to back Iowa
*** We know the books don't hold the Wildcats in high regard

I'll pass thank you.

Jax -7.5 CIN
I was leaning Bungles early in the week, but there just aren't enough Jags backers after last week's loss to Cleveland.

Tb -9 KC
Thankfully I can pass this game.

CLE -1.5 Bal
As much as I would like to play the Ravens I do not have the consensus to back me up.

BUF -5.5 Nyj
Line looks high, but its getting more action on Buffalo. Not enough to warrant a play on the Jets though.

Arz -3 STL
Not thrilled at the notion of backing St. Louis, but I could see myself doing so on Sunday.

CHI -12.5 Det
Line is drawing near split-action, no play.

TEN -4.5 Gb
Green Bay is primed, but I don't know if I can justify a play on them.

DEN -3 Mia
If anyone could fill me in as to why Denver is getting backed so hard, it would be appreciated.

CFB Leans Week 10

The list is quite extensive and it's not something that I'm completely thrilled about. There's a lot of fat on this card that needs to be trimmed.
Caps indicates home team

UCONN +4 wva
In case you didn't know, West Virginia is back after beating Auburn.

NW +7 Minny
I really liked this one early in the week, but now I'm cooling off on the thought of backing NW.

Wisky +5.5 MSU
Really? The oddsmakers haven't been respecting Sparty.

BAYLOR +21 Mizzou
I hope this isn't the same old Baylor team that everyone else thinks it is.

Colorado +3.5 A&M
Nice spot to back the Buffs coming off their 58-0 drubbing at the hands of Mizzou. Meanwhile A&M has developed quite a following lately, hopefully that ends here.

Pitt +5 ND
Unsure about the Pitt QB situation heading into the game. Either way right now a definite lean to the 'Stache. I mean if you can't stop Mike Teel, who can you stop?

LT +4 Fresno
Fresno has really looked solid in their last three games. Do they continue to slide? I'm leaning that way.

Arkansas St +23.5 BAMA
Excuse me while I vomit.

Iowa St +31 BOONE PICKENS
Iowa St really does blow something fierce.

CAL -3 Oregon
Uh-oh, second lean that is going against the Wheel of Genius.

Temple +7 NAVY
I'm told this is a complete mismatch.

North Texas +17 WKU
17-point dog against a team in its first full year of FBS. In case you didn't know it's quite a program they have down there in Denton.

Fla Intl +7 UL-LAF
I, like Vegas, was unaware how special UL-Lafayette was.

CSU +14.5 byu
I really wouldn't mind seeing BYU come up with the cover. I have other rooting interests.

Tennessee +6 OLD BALL COACH
Tennessee has almost become a weekly auto-play

NMSU +21.5 Boise St
The Aggies are coming off an inspired effort last week in Moscow. This line is disgustingly low.

UL-MON +10 Troy
I think Monroe is worse than people realize, but that wouldn't stop me from taking them against an overhyped Troy squad. Well, as hyped as a Sunbelt team can get.

Tulane +26.5 LSU
Is LSU going to be pissed or demoralized?

UNLV +14 Tcu
It's not like Vegas has to go out of their way to attract action on TCU, but they did anyway.

UTEP +3 Rice
Not my most confident of leans, that's probably a good thing.

NM +7.5 Utah
Another MWC Special!

Arizona St +15.5 BEAVERS
Nice game last week Sun Devils.

UCF +3.5 Ecu
Didn't the oddsmakers watch the game last Sunday night?

It's FAN-tastic

My plan for the NBA is to tread lightly. It's a long season and there is no reason why I should let a possible slow start keep me discouraged. To start, regular plays on sides will be .5 and 1 unit on large plays. Regular plays on totals will be .25 with .5 on large plays. As one can plainly see on the second night of the NBA I have two large plays, not the brand of discipline I was hoping to begin with.

Golden St +6 +101 (1)

Expect Some Great Football Tonight

Marshall +7 +107 (1)
Houston is riding a hot streak while Marshall has lost three straight including their last one to UAB, who doesn't really count as a team from what I've heard.

Buffalo/Ohio O49 +110 (1)
Teams cannot score in cold weather, especially two teams from the MAC. Look for this total to settle at 42

Also looking at the Houston/Marshall total as well. I don't want to just lose two units tonight, I might want to lose three.

No play on baskets tonight, but I will most likely find something for tomorrow night. Maybe fading a certain team that lost in the WCF Semis who is taking on a team that lost their best player and has another young star out for half the year due to a moped accident.

EDIT - Original total bet was cancelled out, so...

29 Knicks (0) 1,534 32.5
30 Thunder (1) 1,077 25.5

This is the Sportsnation rankings from ESPN. So you know well-informed individuals put much thought into their selections. The number in parenthesis is number of first-place votes, the second number is their acculumated points. The third column is the O/U W-L record that Vegas set. Yes it looks like ass, but I have virtually no formatting knowledge.

Cross-referencing Sportsnation with Vegas O/U the public seems to be down on the Knicks, Bobcats(pre-season record) and Raptors. While overvaluing the Cavs(surprise, I know) and Suns.

The Thunder are perceived to be the worst team in the league by far (regardless of the homer who voted them #1).

Public is also down on the Warriors, I'll side with Basketball Prospectus when it comes to Nellie's squad.

Against All Odds has a breakdown of the Atlantic, Central and Southeast divisions

I'm going to tread lightly at the beginning of the year, my ass is still hurting from last year's playoffs.

Another MNF Under Loser

Usually a 3-1 day is cause for celebration, but when that one loss comes in a sport that I've been struggling to find my rhythm* in, I was none too pleased. ML's graphic design skills show what was so maddening about this specific game.

WAC Special

SJSU +7 +104 (1.5)

Passed on the under, which will hit

NFL Leans

Let me start off by saying the NFL card sucks this week. If I had any self-control I would only play the Dolphins this week, but I might get sucked into backing the Texans and others. The week is already off to a great start. I lost a borderline MAC total and the two plays I passed last night both hit. This week will be a great one, I can tell already. Onto the leans...

bal -9 OAK
I was pleasantly surprised that the Raiders came through in OT last week. A slight lean to Al Davis.

sd -3 no
Both teams coming off losses, playing in London. I think I can pass.

NYJ -13.5 kc
Tyler Thigpen alert! Lean the Jets, most likely not a play unless the line moves up another point.

buf -1.5 MIA
This is the game that stands out like a sore thumb in this sea of crap.

DAL -1 tb
Never thought I would be leaning Dallas, but that's what happens when you lose three straight along with your QB. Not to mention the other distractions that are going on. ESPN kept running a promo saying how the Cowboys wouldn't win a game until Romo came back. Might be a nice spot to back the 'Boys.

PHI -9 atl
This line looks a little high. Are the Falcons still patting themselves on the back after their last second win over the Bears?

NE -9 stl
The slightest of leans to the Rams only because the Patriots dominated the Broncos on MNF.

CAR -4 arz
This reminds me of the Chicago-Minny game from last week. Maybe Arizona will personally hand the Panthers 14 points.

was -7.5 DET
Slight lean to the Lions, but this game will be interesting for mostly non-gambling reasons.

JAX -7 cle
No thank you

PIT -2.5 nyg
Two overhyped squads = pass

SF -5 sea
I'm not even sure the last time the Niners were this big of a fave, probably a couple of years. I'm sure this will be an exciting well-played game.

HOU -9 cin
Lean the Texans because I am a masochist

TEN -4 ind
Indy was finally exposed against the Packers, but the Titans still are not getting any respect from the oddsmakers. Most likely a pass.

Your CFB Leans For WK9

SJSU +7
The oddsmakers know this is Boise St, right? They've already got a spot locked up in the BCS.

Indiana +8
I'm disgusted with this play, yet I like it. Quite a bit in fact.

Eastern Michigan +25
The fading of Ball St combines to meet the backing of EMU. The line has already moved 1.5 points to Ball St and I'll be surprised if it doesn't creep up a little more.

Toledo +4
Central Michigan has quite the following, no?

Kansas -1.5
I'm a moron who already has Kansas locked in at -2.5

Florida -25.5
This doesn't even remotely feel right.

Kansas St +18.5
How many yards will OU rack up this game, 600...700? I wouldn't be surprised in the least.

Baylor +12.5

Duke +10.5
This line seems a little high to me, that's probably because I still view Vandy as garbage.

Rutgers +9.5
meh

Tennessee +6.5
Auto-play

Cal -17
Look everyone it's the Pac-10 public dog of the week....this week the role is being played by UCLA.

LSU -1.5
I hate both of these teams.

Michigan +3.5
I'm sure this will be enjoyable to watch. Remember everyone, Michigan St is going to bounce back.

Iowa St -3
Battle of the heavyweights in the Big 12.

SDSU +9
People are lining up to fade the Aztecs after last week.

Arizona St +3
The consensus numbers are there, but I'm not sold on this play.

Looking at NM/AF under and West Virginia for tonight, not sure if either will be a play though.

Haw/Boise U52 +105 (1)

NFL Leans

ten -8.5 KC
pass

BUF -1 sd
Line movement switches with a majority on San Diego. I'll see how frisky I feel Sunday morning as to whether or not I play Buffalo

pit -9.5 CIN
If I lean anything it would be Pittsburgh, but there's no chance I play this game.

MIA -3 bal
Lean Baltimore, but this will most likely be a pass

dal -7 STL
I'm not getting involved in this game, too many variables in play

CHI -3 min
I don't really want to, but I'll most likely be on the Vikes. This line didn't stand out when I first saw it and it still doesn't, but the Neckbeards are getting hammered. I don't really have a choice.

CAR -3 no
I'll be on the Panthers, no doubt.

NYG -10.5 sf
I can see the Niners covering in this one, but it won't be a play.

HOU -9 det
It'll be nice not to have a vested interest in the Texans this week, they were driving me crazy the last two weeks.

nyj -3 OAK
The hook dropped off early in the week with the Jets getting absolutely pounded. This one is going to be rather ugly and has no chance of a Raiders cover. I, of course, will be on the Raiders.

WAS -7.5 cle
Cleveland is good now, in case you didn't know.

ind -1.5 GB
Packers will be a play, no doubt.

TB -10.5 sea
The Buccaneers gig might be up if they blow out the Seahawks this week. I won't be playing this, but I'm hoping for a gruesome win by Tampa. I don't ask for much.

NE -3 den
Patriots looked horrible last Sunday night. Broncos are getting hammered as a pup. It's Monday Night Football. I'll be on the Pats.

This Night Is Gonna Blow Something Fierce

Florida St -11 +106 (1)
TCU -1 -108 (1.5)

I am really worried that I might start cussing in class while following these games online.

CFB Leans Week 8

Florida St -11
Home Dogs on ESPN are money!!

TCU -1.5
Top 10 team as a dog against an unranked conference foe. Line switching 4 points away from BYU when they are getting hammered. Already put 1.5x on this play, I might tack on an additional .5x for a 2x play (8% of bankroll).

Haw/Boise U52
These teams don't play defense, not a lick

Rutgers +1
What am I thinking going against TheRealUnger? I obviously do not like money.

Maryland +2
This line is just a little low. I'm guessing the bummy Maryland shows up.

Clemson +2.5
Head coach gets fired, so the team will lose. It's a law of nature.

Duke +3
Line has dropped 2.5 points, not sure why. It's not like Duke can beat Miami, right?

Iowa -3.5
Public thinks Wisky is gonna bounce back just fine.

KU/OU U60.5
This bet will be over at 13:39 in the 3rd

Iowa St +8

Tennessee -7.5
Tennessee in no point in this game will be covering

Georgia -14.5
I really will despise Georgia when they win by 14

EMU +3.5

USC -42.5
Hilarious

Washington +14
The Huskies are pathetic, Beavs roll

Arizona +2.5

Western Kentucky +2
They have a football team?

BC -2.5
I know absolutely nothing about BC, they lost Matt Ryan so I'm sure they are a lesser team compared to last year.

Weekly NFL Insights

Another large NFL card that will end in a mix of anger, frustration, agony, and self-doubt. The lines for the games this week are for the most part, disgusting.

NO -7 oak
Leaning Raiders in all their dysfunctional glory. Nawlins didn't get the win against Minny on MNF, but the consensus is that they gave the game away and are still the better team. Plus Nawlins shut down Adrian Peterson, doing the same against Oakland should be no chore. How are the Raiders going to move the ball, with Jamarcus Russell's arm? I don't think so.

IND -4 bal
After Sage Rosenfels worked his magic, Indy isn't viewed in the same light. They are still overvalued while Baltimore is undervalued. Leaning Joe Flacco.

NYJ -7.5 cin
Under was going to be an autoplay until it was announced Palmer was out. Line has dropped to 42.5, I'll weight my options. Not even looking at the side.

TB -1 car
"I'll keep riding the Bucs as long as no one thinks they're any good." - Sham 10-03-08

MIN -13 det
This line is steep, but this is the Lions. Lean Vikes.

chi -3 ATL
The thought of taking Atlanta makes me sick, looks like a play on the Falcons.

HOU -3 mia
Can I take another helping of Sage? Maybe, I really don't fucking want to though.

WAS -13.5 stl
Rams completely blow, but I'm not ready to back them just yet.

DEN -3.5 jax
Lean Broncos because pub is backing Jax as a dog

phi -4.5 SF
This line is gross, that's why I lean Niners.

dal -5 ARZ
Another line that makes one wonder, like Zona quite a bit.

SEA -1.5 gb
Excuse me while I vomit at the notion of backing the Seahawks again.

SD -5 ne
Lean Bolts

nyg -9 CLE
Browns....ugh

PHI -5.5 was

CFB Leans Week 6

This is looking like a big week in both college and pro, I'm sure I'll have to drown the pain.

Utah -11
I'm still on the fence with this play, right now it's a weak lean. I might have to play it on principal. Oregon St dominated USC in the trenches last week, everyone saw it. I've heard that if Oregon St shows up with their B game after last week they should cover against Utah, oh really?

Marshall +3.5

Utah St +29.5
This won't look too great when BYU wins 49-0

Kunt St Golden Showers +3.5
Way to get your XP blocked last week fuckers.

Purdue +13
If Purdue can't stop CMU and ND, how on earth will they contain Penn St? I don't know, I'm hoping it has something to do with going on the road for the first time (playing at Syracuse does not count as an official road game because they are not a real team).

Iowa St +13
Not totally disgusted by this play, I know how that usually turns out.

Baylor +27
Oklahoma is unstoppable, they proved as much last week.

Cal -9
Arizona St is getting some love as a pup

We Are K State +7.5
This will be a play, looking to further my disgust by looking at the under. This is ridiculous I know, especially when Texas Tech and their video game offense is going against the future #1 pick in the NFL Draft.

EMU +21
ugh

Air Force -6
This might be a reach, I'll see how the week progresses

Virginia +13.5
Wahoos blow

It's Division I Football, It's the Big 12 +13.5

Kentucky +16.5
Saban will have his boys ready, this young team won't have a letdown.

Michigan -2.5

Nebraska +11
VT moved the ball over Nebraska, Missouri will have no problem at all.

Might As Well

My plan was to start playing bases next year. I had a few plays in mind when it came to the postseason, but I didn't think I would be taking individual games. Well that has changed, I'm sure I'll be regretting this decision in the coming weeks

Dodgers +144

WAC < Everyone Else

WhACk off U56.5 -101 (1)

Boise St shredded Oregon, La Tech's defense should pose no problem.

passing LT, I'm sure they will cover now.

Divisional Play

Risking .5x
Brew Crew +167
Dodgers +186
Red Sox +128

The first two are follows from ML and VW, putting their heads together they set lines for each game in the Divisional Series and from there determined what the series price should be. The Brewers and Dodgers both have value in their eyes.

The Red Sox play is an original loser by me. I based the selection off the difference in third order record between the teams. The Red Sox were a full 18 games better than were the Angels, that's good enough for me even if I do have to back Red Sox Nation.

I have a sinking feeling that I'm really going to despise the Angles when the playoffs are finished.

NFL Leans

Den -10 KC
I wonder how many units the Chiefs will cost me this year, 5...10? One thing I am thankful for is that Tyler Thigpen won't be starting this week.

CIN -3.5 Cle
Clusterf*ck = Pass

JAX -7 Hou
I'm waiting for a time to back Houston, this might be the week.

NYJ -1.5 Arz
Lean towards the Jets, but most likely a no play.

NO -5.5 Sf
I don't like betting on or against my favorite teams unless it's a slam dunk, this is not the case.

CAR -6.5 Atl
Slight lean towards the Panthers, it's amazing how a rookie QB can look so good at home against an awful team, but so bad on the road against a decent team. Who'd a thunk it?

TEN -3 Min
Tennessee is the most physical team in the league! The Vikings known for their finesse play, have already pissed themselves. Likely a play on the Vikes.

TB -1 Gb
The line opened at TB -3, who does Vegas want you to take?

Buf -8 STL
I still don't think people know how bad St. Louis really is, looking at the under.

Sd -7.5 OAK
Oakland has looked fiesty in their last two games, San Diego beat down the Jets on Monday Night. Leaning heavily on Al Davis

DAL -11 Was
Passing the side, but the under is definitely worth a look.

Phi -3 CHI
Liking the Bears quite a bit in this matchup, I'll see how things develop.

PIT -5 Bal
I'm thinking this one is a pass

CFB Leans Week 5

It's been a hectic week and haven't had much time to do "research". So a day late here are my college leans...

Indiana +8.5
The loss to Ball St last week + Sparty's last two performances were not as good as the score would indicate. Plus Ball St gashed Indiana for 224 rushing yards last week, Ringer will have that amount at the half.

Kent St +17
Ball St just beat a team from a power conference, so the Golden Showers should be no problem. Also how will Ball St react after losing Dante Love?

Memphis +2
I have no justification other than when the line was originally set Memphis was favored. I don't think the oddsmakers made a mistake.

Akron +11
I'm lukewarm on this pick, we'll see what happens in the next 24 hours

Houston +10.5
ECU will bounce back, right?

ND -1
Notre Dame sucks, Purdue is good, appearantly

Tennessee +6.5
This is one of my favorite plays this week. The reasons for backing Tennesse should be obvious I'll see if I can contain myself when deciding how much to bet.

Michigan +6
I have no idea why people are standing in line waiting to back Allen Everidge on the road as a fav

Florida St -5.5
This one is comical. Colorado beats an overrated West Virginia team led by an overmatched, but pleasant Bill Stewart. FSU looks like complete ass on national tv against Wake. FSU will be lucky to even score six points this weekend.

Arkansas +27
I have nothing for this game, most likely a pass unless I decide I want to lose another unit this weekend.

Wyoming +3
Where are all the people early in the year who were backing Wyoming at home against an also-ran from the MAC?

North Texas +17
The Mean Green defense has looked utterly pathetic all year, I see no reason for this to change against Rice. In addition, it doesn't feel right going against a team that lost by 42 their last time out.

TCU +18
Stoops will likely be an asshole in this game

Georgia -6
This game is bizarre. I feel dirty even thinking about backing the preseason #1 at home sporting a 3-0 record, but it's not up to me. It's up to the public

Idaho +11.5
The Vandals laid claim to being the worst to in the FBS last week, I'll be looking at them more seriously as the year progresses

Nevada +4
UNLV is big-time after beating ASU and ISU. Nevada has not looked so good against Texas Tech(should have fucking covered) or Missouri.

EDIT - Adding Pitt ML -108 (1)

NFL Leans

ATL -6 kc
Tyler Thigpen suited up last week for the Chiefs and I don't know if one could look any worse than he did. Words cannot describe how pathetic Thigpen was against the Raiders. I also have no words to describe why I will be backing him this Sunday

BUF -9.5 oak
Buffalo overvalued, Raiders=Raiders, Leaning heavily on Al Davis this week

TEN -4.5 hou
Tennessee has won and covered their first two games and there has been talk of them being a Super Bowl darkhorse. Houston looked like ass in their opener against the Steelers then has a bye week, who looks like the play?

NYG -13 cin
Obvious lean to the Bengals, but this play might get cut as I tighten up my card for Sunday

WAS -3 arz
pass

NE -12.5 mia
I honestly have no idea

CHI -3 tb
Who thought people would flock to back Neckbeard? Tampa is getting serious consideration.

MIN -3.5 car
Carolina beat San Diego and Chicago without Steve Smith, now they get the winless Vikings who will be dusting off Gus Frerotte. Public is backing a dog yet the line moved a half-point to the Vikings. I wonder what I should do?

SEA -10 stl
Seattle has sucked this year, so has St. Louis. It appears as if someone wants you to take the Rams in this case.

SF -4 det
Passing this clusterfuck

DEN -5.5 no
I can pass on two overvalued teams even if one is getting pounded

PHI -3.5 pit
Did not think I would be leaning Pittsburgh in this game before the year started

IND -5.5 jax
Both teams have struggled, both teams are passes

BAL -2 cle
Baltimore is looking like an auto-play

dal -3 GB
Will most likely be on the Packers

SD -9 nyj
Slight lean towards the Chargers, but most likely a pass

No play in the Uconn-Baylor cluster, I will have my morning and afternoon college plays posted around 9:30am.

CFB Leans Week 4

I don't like this card near as much as the last two weeks. That could be good(4-9 in wk 2) or bad(8-3 last week). The only game that is a definite play come Saturday is Toledo. There are other games where I am leaning heavily (Temple, Arkansas, Buffalo) but nothing is set in stone. Onto the leans...

Temple +28.5: This is more a fade of Penn St than anything else

Ole Miss -7: Vandy is getting way too much love right now. One nationally televised upset win over South Carolina coupled with a 3-0 ATS will turn you public.

Wyoming +28.5: If BYU can beat UCLA 59-0, what will they do against the Cowboys?

Auburn +2.5: The high-octane basketball on grass game that Auburn played against Sly Croom, is stuck in the minds of all those smart bettors who took Auburn. The O38 will get a look as well.

Arkansas +9.5: Arkansas has been 4 points better than their opponents this year, Western Illinois and UL-Monroe. In both of those games the Razorbacks were down double-digits in the 4th. As ugly as Arkansas has looked this year, I'm not disgusted by this play (never a good sign).

Pittsburgh -1: Iowa is a public dog, Pitt hasn't looked good this year. How will Kirk Ferentz's criminals look away from Kinnick?

New Mexico +10: No way New Mexico hangs with Tulsa, just like there was no way NM would hang with Arizona

Air Force +8: I don't think Air Force got the memo that the forward pass is legal.

Army +10: I really don't want to get involved in this clusterfuck, but I think my hand will be forced.

NC St +7.5: Does the fading of ECU continue? I have no idea, the Wolfpack are gruesome enough to play though.

Buffalo +34: Did you know Chase Daniel has more TD passes than incompletions in his last two games? I, honestly, had no idea.

Toledo +7.5: Fresno usually bounces back after a disappointing non-conference loss, right?

Tennessee +7.5: I really want to stay away from this game

Arizona St +7: ASU really hasn't looked good against top-flight competition, that probably won't change this week.

FIU +28.5: KU beat 'em by 30, USF can surely do the same, no?

UL-Monroe +6: Tulane almost beat ECU, who is UL-Monroe?

For tonight's WVU-Colorado game there will be no play.

Wednesday Night Football?

UL +3.5 +117 (1)
UL ML +175 (1)

This play really has no chance whatsoever, consider these facts

Kansas State comes rolling into town with the 3rd most efficient passer in the NCAA in Josh "My coach said imma be the number 1 pick in the NFL Draft" Freeman

Louisville could only put up 2 points against Kentucky in their nationally televised rivalry game

Kansas State has taken down perennial powers North Texas and Montana St

Louisville lost to Kentucky and beat some crappy team (nowhere near as good as North Texas or Montana St)

Did I mention how truly horrible Louisville looked against Kentucky in their nationally televised game and how dominant K-St looked at home against stiff competition?

I might as well be burning my money instead of wagering on the Cardinals

Because I'd Rather Not Read My Economics Book.....

Here are my NFL leans

KC -4 oak
Oakland looked shitty on MNF, can't argue that fact. For that reason and KC hanging tough with a Brady-less Patriot squad the Chiefs are getting pounded. I'll take the hapless Raiders and the points.

CINCY -1 ten
Vince Young is out for the Titans and that might actually help them, honestly I have no idea in this game. Titans seem like the easy pick, but I do not bet anything that is easy.

indy -2 MIN
I like the Vikes and the points in this one, no shame in losing on the road to a solid GB team. That and the public is pounding the Colts, so that made it easier.

no -1 WAS
Maybe it's because I didn't see the Redskins play last Thursday, but why the orgy on Nawlins? I'll go with the Washington Redstits (no that's not a typo).

gb -3 DET
This line is disgusting, just god awful. It's either the Lions or no play, probably no play. I'm sure it's because I'm influenced by FO and I still view the Packers as damn near the same team as last year(because they are sans Favre), while downgrading the Lions, who look to be stellar this year.

CAR -3 chi
Battle of teams with surprising week 1 wins, I'll gladly stay away from both thank you.

nyg -9 STL
Rams should be playing in FBS against the Trojans to see who will be the NFL's 32nd team. Leaning Rams....ugh

JAX -5 buf
This would be a great spot to back the Jaguars, but I hate the fact that their missing a big chunk of their offensive line. They still might be a play, but right now it's a pass

TB -7 atl
Atlanta beat up on Detroit at home, TB lost a close one @ New Orleans. Tampa will be without Garcia and Brooks might be out as well. Public likes Atlanta. I like Tampa

SEA -6.5 sf
Seattle must have a plague on their WRs, this game could go either way and that makes it a pass.

ARZ -6 mia
I lean Cardinals, but probably a no play

NYJ -1 ne
Who thought this would be the line a week ago. I thought for a bit that the Pats might be a play, they will not and neither will the Jets

HOU -3.5 bal
I like Houston at this spot, as they were not as bad as they played last week. I have a crush on both these teams and will likely stay away.

sd -1 DEN
Denver beats down on Oakland, San Diego loses at the gun to a previously underrated Carolina squad. If I had to pick I'd be laying that point.

pit -6 CLE
The thought of backing Cleveland makes me sick, If I can bring myself to it I'll be on the Browns

DAL -6.5 phi
Too much going on with this play and what before looked like a slam dunk on the Eagles is looking like a pass, I'll see what develops.

CFB Leans that will lose money

USF - had to go to OT with UCF, ha! they suck (nevermind USF outgained UCF 2-1 in total yards and UCF was much more motivated than USF). Kansas meanwhile has shown its muscle against FIU and La Tech.

Maryland - Cal destroyed a stellar Wazzu squad coupled with Maryland looking quite formidable against the powerhouses that are Delaware and Middle Tennessee

FAU - Sun Belt sucks

UL-Laf - above

Nevada - I can't imagine this loss being any more painful than last week against Tech

Tulane - fading ECU after two high profile wins

BYU - people talking themselves into UCLA after losing money on them, hell Washington should have won that game!

Purdue - Oregon has rolled twice at home, playing on the road should be no different, Big 10 sucks too.

Spurrier - UGA only laying 7?, A GIFT FROM VEGAS

Syracuse - The Orange really are putrid

Notre Dame - Sagebrush from Covers puts it nicely, "Wouldn't Michigan slaughter Cal-Poly? Ok, let's see...Cal-Poly somehow beats San Diego State...then Notre Dame struggles and barely beats SD St...so my question is how the hell will the fighting irish hang with Michigan...? Don't see it happening!!!"

Va Tech - Line is set up for action on the Ramblin' Wreck

Ohio St - Wells is now doubtful, so the Buckeyes' chances of winning just went from 5% to 0.0001%

Ohio St/USC U45

New Mexico - home games against Idaho and Toledo have shown how superior Arizona is to New Mexico who is 0-2 on the year

Yesterday night will live in infamy for quite some time. Memphis/Rice and Nevada/Texas Tech will go down as all-timers. It was a disgusting crock of shit. My other losers were just a straight kick in the balls, an all-around solid night for square logic. I guess I need to start looking at stats and trends to justify my plays and not betting on overinflated lines.

Northwestern is only laying 6 to Duke, Duke sucks

UCF +14 -110 (1)
It wouldn't surprise me if my future bet was shot in week 2

Memphis -3 -110 (1)
Memphis - blowout loss + Rice - blowout win over a shitty SMU squad on national tv = this play

North Texas +21.5 -103 (1)
Tulsa will gain 834 yards today against this porous d, I guess Tulsa has the steel curtain on their side.

Louisiana Tech +21.5 -110 (1)

Nebraska is ONLY -26.5!?

Let me lay it down for everyone who reads this site (maybe 1 person besides me), there is a guy I know who absolutely looks down upon people who gamble. Let's call him Waldo. Waldo thinks it is a complete waste of money. Waldo saw my copy of Pro Football Prospectus and kept saying, "stupid" under his breath because he thought it was a gambling book (it kinda is for win totals, but he is oblivious to that fact) never mind the fact that it is the most informative book you can read on the NFL. It was "stupid".

So imagine my shock when I heard that Waldo wanted to drop some cash on the local university. He wants to do what now? Mr. Moral Superiority wants to lower himself to the dregs of society? This line has enticed him so much that he wants to come down from his soapbox and put down his first wager on Nebraska -26.5. His square thinking is as follows Nebraska is 23 points better than Western Michigan. Western Michigan is at least a TD better than San Jose St. Thus Nebraska should cover their spread against SJSU.

Waldo is right about one thing, for him gambling will be a complete waste of money.

Who Needs Self-Control?

I like way too many games this weekend and it's guaranteed to end badly, here are the leans

NCAAF
EMU +21.5
Marshall +21.5
SJSU +27
Oregon St +16.5
NM +3
Wazzu +13.5
Duke +6.5
Tulane +30
No. Ill +6
UCF +14.5
La Tech +21
North Tejas +22
Minnesota +6
Memphis -3.5
Nevada +10
Toledo +22.5
UTEP +26.5

UTEP is my favorite play right now, followed by SJSU, UCF and Nevada

NFL
Joe Flacco +1
Texans +6.5
Falcons +3
Oh My God they don't have Farve -2.5
Carolina +9.5

I'll probably end up with only a couple plays for NFL week 1, with Flacco and Texans loooking like definite plays.

Labor Day Special Part II

UCLA +7.5 EV (1)

This has no chance of covering

EDIT- bought back, so now if UCLA wins I'm +.237 and if the Fightin' Fulmers win I push. This piece of mind is definitely worth it.

Labor Day Special Part I

Rutgers -3.5 +101 (1)

I noticed this play mid-week when everyone was pumping Fresno and counting out Rutgers because Ray Rice is gone.

There will definitely be a play for tonight's game....I'm sick just thinking about it, but I'm gonna gamble that the books want some of their money back after this weekend was filled with square winners.

CFB Week 1

Bowling Green +13 +105 (1)
Pittsburgh's win over West Virginia at the end of the year coupled with Bowling Green looking like a pile of shit in their 63-7 loss to Tulsa in the GMAC bowl has inflated this line just a little.

Frank Solich +13 EV (1)
Everyone and their dog, cat, goldfish, horse is on Wyoming for God only knows why. Unofficial tally: Wyoming 71, Ohio 10.

Wazzu +7 -103 (1)
See above, but I can see the angle on T. Boone Pickens which makes this play all the more disgusting. My only hope is that Boone Pickens forgets how to play on the road. Unofficial tally: T. Boone Pickens 82, Wazzu 4. What really pushed this over was Gids being on Ok St in our pick em league.

Kent St +10.5 -110 (1)
The Golden Showers sucked last year, no need stop that trend.

FAU +26 -110 (.5)
Tex -23 -114 (.25)
This is a shot at a middle.

This makes a total of 8 plays on the first weekend of college football after I telling myself I would take it easy. There are two possible plays for Monday, what restraint.

Passes were North Tejas and Akron

SMU +3.5 EV (1)

This was on my list of leans and the large majority of people are in love with steamed Rice, so unfortunately it's a play.

Thursday Night Round-Up

That Titans loss was a brutal one to take, surprisingly I took it in stride. I have no idea why. The Titans and Baylor plays were late additions and not originally on my leans. I should have had the disicpline to pass both of those plays. I was, however, quite surprised that Stanford was able to avoid blowing their game. Thank you, Darrell Catchings.

The ending of the Titans/Packers game, while a kick in the balls, should act as a constant reminder. I will not take my disappointment out on Matt Flynn, I will internalize it and hopefully use it as a lesson for the rest of the season.

Still, fuck Matt Flynn.

Edit 2:30am Romney to win VP +132 (.75)
Pawlenty to lose VP +174 (1.74)

The Next Several Months Are Going To Be Bad

Baylor +13 -110 (1)
Stanford +3.5 -110 (1.02) don't ask

I passed on MTSU because there were WAAAAY too many people on them recently, that's not something that I want to be a part of. Added Baylor to the mix, but that was probably a borderline play that I pulled the trigger on. The Stanford game will be brutal as well.

Add FAU, Bowling Green, and Rutgers to my leans for this weekend. FAU is on there only because I could play them at +26(a couple points higher than anywhere else thanks to my "local")

Olympic Hoops Blog

1:23am I knew I wouldn't be able to fall asleep and with work approaching in 5 hrs I thought I would stay up and document this 2.5 unit loss.

1:25am This is brutal I went through matchbook for the game earlier in the day and Croatia is +12 and the total is set at 149. The current line is Croatia +13 and 152.5. This fuckin blows.

1:31 Spain 2-0 after 10 seconds, followed by a lane violation, great start

1:34 a couple of shady fouls already on Croatia, this is FIBA.

1:36 Croatia is on the board after 3 minutes, hooray! 6-1 Spain

1:37 Two Croatians fight for the ball and falls to teen heartthrob Ricky Rubio and he finds Gasol for an alley oop. Spain 8-1, way to come out of the gates Croatia.

1:41 Croatia has yet to hit a FG halfway through the quarter, awesome.

1:42 Another Gasol dunk, Spain 12-1

1:44 Croatia finally hits a FG with 3:26 left in the quarter

1:45 Fuck you Calderon

1:47 Croatia just ran a nice offensive set, dribble for 20 seconds and jack up a 26 footer, it somehow went in. Spain leads 19-9.

1:49 Some buttfuck hits a 3 about five feet behind the arc. Spain leads 22-11 after one quarter, this game sucks.

1:55 I say this again fuck you Calderon, Spain 25-16

1:58 Spain blows a lay up only for Gasol to put it back and get fouled in the process, motherfuckers Spain 30-18 6 mins left in the 2nd

2:04 nice bullshit call on the foul, Fernandez was clearly looking to pass the ball not shoot it. Spainards lead 33-21 with 3:30 to go in the 2nd.

2:07 Croatia saved it to Ricky Rubio, too bad he plays for Spain and he was right under his own basket. Spain leads 37-23 with 1:30 to go.

2:08 I don't understand the intentional foul call that Spain was penalized with. As the announcer pointed out, how can you measure intent?

2:13 The play that Croatia drew up after a timeout was right out of John Wooden's playbook, some guy threw up an off-balanced 3 that was an airball.

Spain leads 37-26 at the half.

2:29 Spain plays volleyball and gets two points, 39-26

2:32 Croatia is reeling and this could get ugly quick, Spain leads 42-26 .

2:36 Jorge hits a 3 and Spain leads 47-28 with 6 left in the 3rd.

2:41 another stupid intentional foul, I hate that fuckin rule.

2:43 Calderon picks a nice game to break out of his slump, Spain leads 50-32 with 3 left in the 3rd.

2:45 Croatia scores a couple of quick baskets which leads to a timeout from Spain and the score is 50-36 with a minute and change left in the 3rd.

2:47 I'm counting my lucky stars that the bald guy from Spain keeps missing his 3s.

2:49 Marc Gasol is no Pau Gasol.

2:50 Nice bullshit foul call, no one can touch the Tiger Beat coverboy.

2:51 Croatia displays their excellent offensive play as the 3rd quarter ends. Spain leads 51-38.

2:52 The announcer said Spain was outstanding from 3, they are shooting 6-19. Croatia hits a 3, the score is 51-41.

2:54 I don't like this at all, Spain leads 55-41 one minute into the 4th.

2:56 Croatia has absolutely no fuckin answer for Gasol, Croatia answers with an offensive foul and Spain gets a two to drop in 59-41.

3:00 Croatia looks like ass on offense, Spain leads 63-41 with 5 and change left.

3:05 Gasol is playing head and shoulders above everyone else. Where the fuck were you against the Celtics you eurotrash?

3:08 The Croatian players are afraid to take an open 3 down 23 with 2 minutes to go. No wonder you only have 49 points.

3:11 Goddamnit Croatia is making a run down 14 shooting a free throw.

3:12 Final Spain 72-59 sonofabitch I fucking had this game for 12. Well atleast all those stupid fuckers who took Spain at -13.5 or -14 lost. I'm still pissed though.

3:17 That sure was fun, well I came out on top which I didn't think would happen, but I'm still upset that I had the game at 12.
